Romania would do well to learn from decriminalization models in other European countries
Romania’s drug laws ensure severe consequences, both immediate and
long-term, for users of illegal substances. If caught in possession of a
small amount of illicit narcotics, the detained faces a potential
prison sentence. After serving the sentence, the police record will
prevent the person from being able to find a job, thus meaning he/she
will be forced to look for work outside of the legal boundaries, and
exposing them to greater risk.
